Description

Diego is an amazing 2016 dapple grey draft cross gelding standing at 16.1 hands and weighing 1400 pounds—a very stout built, once-in-a-lifetime type horse. Diego has completed our natural horsemanship program and is trained to side pass over to a mounting block, trailer fender, tree stump, etc., set on his rump, bow down, and lay down. He loves to set on his rump. Diego is totally respectful on the ground—my 3-year-old daughter can lead him anywhere with no worries of getting stepped on or pushed around. He will go halterless at liberty and follow, turn, and back anywhere you go, even through small doors. Diego is a very gentle soul, laid back, and safe for any rider. I have used him for lessons with my 9-year-old daughter so she could learn how to ride horses off leg pressure without a bridle. We have ridden him double around the parking lot for hours, with horses going in every direction, loud speakers sounding off, and hordes of people and kids running around. I have used him in the shovel race to drag a partner around the ring and also put him in the most wild and crazy setting possible—the Balloon Pop—and nothing phases him. He has done it all and seen it all. With Diego, we have trail ridden him bridleless, hanging the bridle on a tree limb and heading off down the trails, over rocks, through tight spots, in/out of creeks ALL WITHOUT any bit, halter, rein, or neck aid. Diego will lope nice circles, take his leads, slide stop, and back too. He has a very soft and easy lope which is hard to find on a big horse. He is a very confident horse that is not spooky around anything or any situation—as close to bombproof as you'll see. He has been used in all aspects of ranching from roping and dragging cows to sorting and loading—he stands his ground with unruly cows and keeps a cool head even in heated situations. Diego has a very good handle, spins both ways, side passes, backs, opens and shuts gates. Not only will he ride Western, he will also go English and has been started on jumps. In addition, Diego will hook up and pull a cart or buggy. He is safe in the chains and knows the shafts as well—single or double, he does it all. He is safe to drive on the highway and isn't scared of cars, trucks, mailboxes, garbage cans, or barking dogs. As with all horses that complete our program, Diego loves attention in any form—brushing or bathing—and has a ton of personality. He will follow you anywhere at liberty, and he is also easy to catch out of the pasture. He has been ridden around farm equipment, ATVs, over large noisy tarps, and with guns shot off his back. No matter where he goes or what he does, Diego is not spooky acting. Exposed to all kinds of wildlife, he goes anywhere asked. He goes up or down steep slopes, across deep creeks, over downed trees, and all types of rough terrain while staying sure-footed. Don't miss this truly AMAZING horse.
